“The Visitor” may be the single best episode of Star Trek Deep Space Nine ever. And it’s one of the best episodes of any Trek series.

Am I right?

I may be biased, as I just re-watched it for the first time since it aired back in 1995. Also, my father was still alive back then.

Star Trek: First Contact

Watching the film on Blu-Ray and listening to the new commentary by Damon Lindelof (writer/producer of Lost) and Anthony Pascale (Editor of Trekmovie.com). They’re great. I’m learning a lot. Here’s an example.

Damon Lindelof’s top 3 Trek films -

1. The Wrath of Khan
2. Galaxy Quest
3. First Contact

On a related note, I think the new film could get a Best Picture nomination based on the astonishing opening sequence (“You’re Captain now, Mister Kirk”) alone.

I loved it. I absolutely loved it. It was a very, very odd experience to be in the cinema watching a new Star Trek movie that I wasn’t in. Not only that, but with the exception of Leonard Nimoy I didn’t know any of the cast … but, it’s Star Trek. They’ve taken some quite innovative decisions but it’s absolutely essential, right down the middle Star Trek. I got a great kick out of it.

Bridge of the USS Kelvin

James Clyne designed Nero’s ship (both inside and out) and the interiors of the Kelvin. Here’s some of the art. Pretty awesome.

I loved Star Trek. All the actors are terrific. Karl Urban, in particular, was outstanding. But Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike steals the movie. I believed every single word he said. After the speech he gave Kirk in the bar (“I dare you to do better”), I wanted to join Starfleet. Greenwood turned a minor character (who appeared only once in the Original Series) into one of the most important players in the new Trek universe. I hope he gets all the acting work he can handle.

Special mention to Faran Tahir as Captain Robau (of the USS Kelvin). He did so much with just one scene. Granted, it was the most important scene in the film. That opening sequence, by the way, was absolutely astonishing. It’s actually my favorite part of the movie. I was a bit choked up by the end of it.

Now that I think about it, every Captain in this movie kicked ass.
